A new festival with deep roots

The Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival is an all-ages family-friendly festival showcasing the best in bluegrass and old-time music.

Although 2019 is our inaugural festival at Laketown Ranch Music Park, we have been around for many years. The site at Laketown, near Lake Cowichan, B.C., will provide a new experience to fans familiar with our former site at Sooke, B.C., which we had outgrown after 16 successful festivals. The organization and structure of the former Sooke River Bluegrass Festival remains the same. This is a new festival — but with deep roots.

With unlimited camping and 5,800 square feet of covered performance area, we strive to provide rain-or-shine comfort nestled in a cozy western town setting at Laketown. We will also have additional tents for instrument workshops and acoustic jam sessions and will continue to feature our signature Saturday Night Square Dance under our “big top” tent. Our new venue also has better day parking and improved accessibility for those with mobility challenges.

Nestled amid the high hills of the beautiful Cowichan Valley, the site is close to the numerous amenities of the area including wineries, lakes, hiking, cycling, house boating  and all that the gorgeous region has to offer.

We are thrilled to have three-time Grammy nominee Claire Lynch and two familiar bands from previous festivals – the Slocan Ramblers and The Lonely Heartstring Band – to help launch our festival at our exciting new location. We are equally exited to announce three local favourites — The Sweet Lowdown, Clover Point Drifters and Country Squall. More of the best in local and regional bluegrass and old-time music will be announced in the coming months.

We are extremely pleased that our partnership with the Victoria Bluegrass Association will continue, and we are committed to keeping our core audience engaged. Please join us June 14-16, 2019 for your annual Cowichan Valley Bluegrass and Old-Time experience.
