The Kody Norris Show
“Deeply rooted in North American folk music, Norris has crafted a performance that harkens back and tips a hat to the traditions created by Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin’s showmanship, the Stanley Brothers’ harmonies, performances of the Grand Ole Opry and a bit of Vaudeville. ”
– No Depression
Hold on to your Stetsons, folks. The Kody Norris Show blows into Cowichan like a bluegrass bomb cyclone with unapologetic devotion to the traditionalism of the Stanley Brothers packaged in the showmanship of Jimmy Martin. The band’s confident, old-school approach to bluegrass has been rewarded with accolades including Entertainer of the Year honours from preservationist organization SPBGMA and 2024 New Artist of the Year nomination from the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association.)
The high-energy band is led by frontman Kody Norris, who shares a birthday with Earl Scruggs and grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee with bluegrass in his veins. “There is a whole chapter of country music that’s just kind of faded away,” says Norris. “I believe The Kody Norris Show has been instrumental in bringing back some of that nostalgia and some of that classic look that country music and bluegrass music used to have.” Caution: he’s a licensed auctioneer. Don’t raise your hand or he might sell you something!
True to its name, the band’s performances are indeed a show, with infectious music, playfulness, humour, stagecraft and the tightness you’d expect from a band playing more than 100 dates a year. Check your pulse if The Kody Norris Band doesn’t make you smile.
Kody Norris is joined by wife Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris, a classically trained violinist, award-winning banjo player Josiah Tyree, and bassist Charlie Lowman.
