The Doggone Brothers Band
Since last appearing at Cowichan two years ago, the Doggone Brothers Band have released a wonderful new album, Hard Luck Livin,’ featuring 11 originals and an inventive cover of the traditional tune Red Rockin’ Chair.
Based in eastern B.C.’s Kootenay region, the band describes itself as “bonafide Canadian Americana” that feels grassy at a folk-fest, and folky at a grass-fest. Their sound is something in between: a nod to traditional instrumentation but an eye towards the future of acoustic music.
The Doggone Brothers are Clayton Parsons (The Good ‘Ol Goats, The Parsons) on banjo, guitar and dobro; Michael Hepher (Craig Young Band, RedGirl, As The Crow Flies) on mandolin, octave mandolin, and guitar; Leah Gardner (fiddle); and Canmore, Alberta musician Rhonda Shippy (upright bass).
