Purchase a weekend festival pass and get a discount to this special workshop where you’ll learn some John Hartford tunes and join this fabulous trio on-stage at the Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival. Open to fiddle, guitar, clawhammer banjo, bass and mandolin. Level: Intermediate and up. Not attending the festival? You can buy a ticket for the workshop only.
For a taste of what you might learn, watch seven-time U.S. National Fiddle Champion Megan Lynch Chowning teach the A and B parts to Living Up Stairs, one of the previously unrecorded Hartford tunes recently released on The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project Vol. 2. Chowning and Gilchrist co-produced and played on the all-female project along with Hartford devotee Baiman and a Who’s Who of some the best women in bluegrass and old-time music.
Vol. 2 is a follow-up to the 2022 Grammy nominated Vol. 1 of the same title. Both recordings bring to life a trove of Hartford-written tunes discovered in notebooks after his death in 2001.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from three of the best. (Guys welcome, too).
